Poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes-inspired heterocyclic compounds for different applications: synthesis and characterization

Abstract Chemical modification of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with different monomers is a convention method for the development its properties. In this study, new multifunctional membranes (PVA-A) 1–3 , (PVA-P) (PVA-AG) and (PVA-PG) were designed synthesized by reaction PVA heterocyclic compounds [ N ʹ-bi- α -azido succinimide (A), -phthalimido- (P)] using glutaraldehyde (G) as cross-linker, respectively. The characterized FT-IR, TGA, SEM X-ray diffraction. swelling behavior showed that exhibited highest capacity in solvents. Their antibacterial against (Gram-negative), (Gram-positive) bacteria, vitro drug loading release activities evaluated. Additionally, metal ions adsorption copper, cobalt mercury was studied. membrane performed inhibitory effect to E. coli Proteus S. aureus B. subtilis bacteria reached 22.9, 25.46, 24.9 30.56, Furthermore, controlled lidocaine, 1 revealed remarkable ability 57.37% 94.59%, Hydrogel (copper, mercury) uptake efficiency (64.5, 69.5 73), Based on results, prepared can be suggested promising agents antibacterial, delivery systems removal from aqueous medium.
